MacBook with M1 (or “cheap” MacBook talk)
Over the years Apple has offered “affordable” Macs by re-selling older models or using earlier chips. For example, Walmart sold MacBook Air with M1 at $699.
But recently (October 2025), Apple did not announce a new cheap MacBook with M1 — instead, their focus in the press release was on Macs using the M5 chip.
The new MacBook Pro (14-inch) now uses M5, part of Apple’s push to shift all its high end machines to M5.
So, the “cheap M1 MacBook” narrative may refer to older stock or discounts, not new models launched in October.
